The
place that gave apples their rightful place to blossom and
burst forth and that gave this country the ripe, red, crunchy
'fruit of the gods'. A place truly to be bitten into, tasted
and ingested. Banjara helps you do just that, with a cosy
little Retreat amidst the bunches of dangling 'Sparking Red'
apples themselves. Lose yourself in the orchard, go berserk
trying to count them or just sit back, relax and dig your
teeth into one. Work off all that eating with a walk to a lake
or a hike to a peak close by.

Make the extra effort
to reach Sangla in Kinnaur district and you are amply rewarded. The
best apples in the country come from this region. Whether Royal,Red
or the exotic Golden, the apples are all there, vying for your
attention, jostling for space, one tastier than the other. There is
hectic activity all around, picking, packing and despatching the
best ones to your neighbourhood store. But the Kinnauris still find
time to smile, say 'hello' and exchange pleasantries. If you are
lucky, they might just stage their local dance for you too. Besides
the apples, there are other things lending colour to the atmosphere
- the snaking blue Baspa river filled with the largest rainbow and
brown trout in the country, the fresh green all around interspersed
with patches of red 'ogla' (the local grain) ready to be harvested,
the myriad flowers dancing and swaying in the breeze, and the
campsite itself with colourful tents to add to the scene.

Come to Rohanda, in the Mandi
district - the orchards are more open here with breathtaking vistas
unfolding around them, providing the serenity to unwind in.This is
the only place you find the shorter trees laden with more apples of
the True American variety. Not only do you get to eat the apples,
but you could also get involved in picking, grading and packing them
here.
