Our mountain lodge in Sangla Valley - the Banjara Camp & Retreat; is the perfect base for exploring the little discovered Kinnaur region. At a height of 2,700 M / 8860 ft, the camp & retreat is surrounded by towering forest clad mountains on all sides and is set in an apple orchard on the banks of the Baspa River that surges through the valley. The lodge has a range of comfortable dwelling units with en suite facilities: Swiss Cottage Tents, Rooms in the Retreat - a two storied stone & wood house in rustic style, and independent cottages, bang on the riverside. A well-equipped kitchen serves multi-cuisine meals and evening bonfires keep the chill away. Hammocks swaying in the breeze, the gurgling of the river, the crisp crackling of the bonfire and the delicious aromas of barbecued food wafting over you; these are just some of the things that we have on offer here. No hotel in Sangla Valley can match your stay at the Banjara Camps.

From Chail/Shimla to Karcham (the turnoff point on NH 22) is 221/209kms. Please take a right turn at Karcham. Take a right turn from here to reach the Banjara Camp parking lot at the base of the hill.

Things to see & do

Chitkul

This quaint village is the last Indian village before the Indo-Tibet border. From the village one can do a beautiful walk along the Baspa River till Nagasthi, the border outpost beyond which civilians are not allowed.

Sangla Meadows

This exquisite picture perfect meadow with great views of snow clad peaks is a 5 - 6 hr hike from the campsite. It is a fantastic place to enjoy a night of trek-style camping.

Rackcham

The 4 hr hike to Rackcham Village along the Baspa River through forest clad mountainside, is the Signature Walk of the valley and a must-do.

Batseri Village

Just across the river from our campsite, this village has several excellent examples of the traditional local architecture including the local Devta Temple, which is simply outstanding.

Glacier Point

Just above Batseri Village lies the tail of a glacier. Hike up here in Mar-May and you will be able to play around in snow.

Mastrang Forest

This lovely stretch of woods is another great spot for overnight camping and it is also a great spot for a picnic lunch on the way back from Chitkul

Kalpa

A day excursion of about 50 kms / 2 ½ hrs (each way) to the hilltop village of Kalpa will reward one with unparalleled & up-close views of the Kinner Kailash Massif on clear days.

Morning Walks

The forest clad mountains surrounding the campsite are perfect for impromptu early morning exploratory walks.

Bonfire

We have a bonfire pretty much every evening (except when it rains)
