Discover undisturbed and hidden reaches of the Western Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh on an overland route used even centuries ago by trading caravans between India and Tibet.

    CHANDIGARH - THANEDAR (2350 M) 195 kms / 6 hrs

    Day 1: CHANDIGARH - THANEDAR (2350 M) 195 kms / 6 hrs

    Drive from Chandigarh Airport / Railway Station (morning Shatabdi from Delhi) and drive via Shimla & Narkanda to reach the apple orchard draped mountainside of Thanedar and the Banjara Orchard Retreat in. Evening at leisure in the sylvan setting of the retreat by a bonfire.

    THANEDAR - Sarahan - SANGLA 156 kms / 6 hrs

    Day 2: THANEDAR - Sarahan - SANGLA 156 kms / 6 hrs

    Post breakfast depart for Sangla Valley, Kinnaur, En route you could take a detour (about 2 hrs totally) to visit the ancient Bhimakali Temple in Sarahan; set against the backdrop of the mighty Shrikand Mahadev Peak. Reach the Banjara Camp & Retreat in Sangla Valley by evening and enjoy the rest of it by a riverside bonfire.

    SANGLA – Rackcham Walk

    Day 3: SANGLA – Rackcham Walk

    Post breakfast do an unforgettable hike through the forested mountain side to Rackcham Village. On the trail visit the temple in Batseri, walk across the tail of a glacier and see the snow capped mountain ranges that separate Himachal from Uttarakhand. Be back at the camp in the afternoon. Evening by a bonfire.

    SANGLA – Chitkul drive & Nagasthi Hike

    Day 4: SANGLA – Chitkul drive & Nagasthi Hike

    Today you drive to Chitkul, it is a fascinating drive of about 45 mins; Pine trees gradually give way to Bhojpatra / Birch and then the tree line disappears. The valley opens out into meadowland beyond which you see the snow capped Greater Himalayas that separate India from Tibet. Perched on one side of the valley below a ridge is the quaint village of Chitkul. Go for a stroll through the village and then hike up along the river to Nagasthi, the border outpost beyond which civilians are not allowed. Be back at the camp in the afternoon. Evening by a bonfire.

    Day 5: SANGLA - THANEDAR

    Drive back to Thanedar. Time permitting you could hike down to St. Mary's church or do a short drive to Tani Jubbar Lake.

    THANEDAR - KALKA RLY STN / CHANDIGARH AIRPORT

    Day 6: THANEDAR - KALKA RLY STN / CHANDIGARH AIRPORT

    After breakfast, get dropped at Kalka and catch the evening Shatabdi back to Delhi or reach Chandigarh Airport for your return flight. Please note: if you are taking the evening Shatabdi then you could take a detour at Narkanda to see Hatu Peak and enjoy the 360 ° Himalayan views.
